112th Congress of the United States of America [2011-2012] | Did you know that companies like Burris, Bushnell, Crimson Trace, Leupold, Galco and Trijicon (just to name a few) have retail sales policies that force dealers not to advertise and at times not sell product below a specific price? But that business practice is currently legal because of a 2007 Supreme Court decision that overturned almost a century of antitrust law and resulted in higher consumer prices with fewer discounts, especially on the Internet. | Cals Sporting Armory doesn't think these types of policies are an ethical or American way of doing business because it doesn't promote free-trade or market competition. Why have more than one dealer if all the product prices are the same everywhere? Once the manufacturer sells the product(s) to a distributor or directly to a dealer the manufacturer has made their desired profit from that wholesale transaction. We believe manufacturers shouldn't be allowed 'by law' to effect the ultimate selling price of a product to the consumer. | It's time for the American consumer to take charge of their wallet! Contact your elected officials today and tell them that you want them to support Senate Bill S. 75, so you're not forced by manufacturers to pay more for product.
Tell Congress How To Vote Now! Go show your support to this bill.
| You wouldn't let anyone take your gun away from you, right? So, why are you letting manufacturers take more money out of your pocket for product?!!

Leupold Golden Ring Dealers a Misnomer
R. Reed | Minneapolis, MN USA
I was looking at purchasing a Leupold rifle scope for my hunting
rifle. I went to the Leupold & Stevens web site and looked at all
the scopes they offered that were 4.5-14x50mm. I finally decided on
which scope I was going to buy. Leupold scopes
are ranked about the best in the world when it comes to performance and
reliability. I had decided on the Leupold model 59270 VX-3 CDS that
comes with a duplex reticle. Now it was time to find a dealer online
that had the scope I wanted to buy and a price I wanted to pay. By the
way, Leupold & Stevens is located in Beaverton Oregon and all of
their scopes are made right here in the U.S.A., they also make scopes
for Redfield. So, while I was on Leuold's web site I clicked on the
WHERE TO BUY link, on the following page there was information listed
about Leupold's Lifetime Guarantee, and also some information about
Leupold Authorized Golden Ring Dealers. Golden Rings Dealers are dealers
that buy Leupold products directly from Leupold & Stevens. On the
dealer locator page I clicked on the ONLINE RETAILERS tab and on the
following page there was a long list of dealers with links to the
dealer's websites. So, I started my search going to each dealer's web
site searching for my scope and the best price. After going to around
ten dealer web site I noticed a theme; all the dealers had close to the
same price for the scope I wanted to buy, as they were all within a few
dollars of each other. Some offered free shipping and others offered
free gun accessories, like scope covers or a free set of rings and bases.
So, I decided to forgo the Leupold dealer locator as it seemed to me
that all of those dealers got together and decided what they were going
to charge for the product. It was like they all conspired to price fix
the products price, and that seems odd to me. So, I started searching
for the Leupold scope on Google. I got better results with that search
method because I came across a site that had a better price on the scope
I wanted to buy. The site I found was Cals Sporting Armory;
they were seventy dollars cheaper than any other dealer. I contacted
their Sales Dept. Via email to make sure the scope they were selling was
new and why they were so much less than any other Leupold dealer. I
received an email reply within a few hours from their Sales Manager, he
stated to me that all the products they sell are new unless otherwise
stated on the product page and that the scope I was emailing about was
indeed new in the box. He also stated to me that there's a large network
of Leupold Authorized Distributors that sell to dealers that don't buy
Leupold products directly from Leupold. Only dealers that buy directly
from Leupold are called Golden Ring Dealers. So, there's a huge
distribution network outside of Leupold's direct dealer program. I also
learned that Leupold forces its direct dealers to advertise and sell the
Leupold product at a minimum price. Leupold calls it a Minimum
Advertised Price Policy or MAP Policy. So, Leupold is dictating what
people are paying for the Leupold product. I was amazed to find all this
out, and a bit mad! I even considered not buying a Leupold scope after I
learned all this information. However, since the Sales Manager at Cals
Sporting Armory took a lot of time to explain the finer details to me I
felt good in purchasing my Leupold scope from them and I would highly
recommend that other shooting sports enthusiasts do the same. Cals
Sporting Armory doesn't play Leupold's price fixing game, they simply
want to offer all of use shooting sports enthusiasts a price on product
that isn't fixed or preset by the manufacturers.
